Things to think about before adding a blog to your website
If you have a WordPress website, it is fairly easy adding a blog to your website as blogging was the foundation of the WordPress system. Blogging is an excellent way to keep your clients or potential clients educated on your specific product(s) or services that you offer as a company. A blog is a great way to keep people returning to your site often to read any new posts about specials, new company or industry announcements or simply a good read. If you do not have a WordPress site, your site will need to be converted to WordPress to add the blog feature.
One of the many criteria search engines may rank upon is the length of time someone spends on your site. If someone clicks onto your site from the search engines and there is nothing of value at your site to keep them there, they will spend very little time on the site. If the site is hard to navigate, especially for mobile users, the visitor will leave quicky. This is referred to as your bounce rate, which is a percentage of your traffic that closes their browser window on your site after viewing only your homepage and not clicking through the site. So, a blog can also help with your bounce rate by offering something of value on your site whether it is videos or written articles to educate your visitors about the products or services you offer.
WordPress blogs are very easy to manage, to add a new article you simply click New Post in your WordPress admin panel, you type a title, then type in your article (or paste it from a file you pre wrote the article in for proofing purposes). You have a simple toolbar that will allow you to style your text, as well as add photos and/or videos very easily. There are many WordPress tutorials online for free that can teach you more advanced skills of blogging, so you can easily become a blogging master with the wealth of information available on the Internet.
So, here come the biggest tip we can offer. If you have a WordPress site and you get a blog added, please update it and often. There is nothing worse than going to a company website that I am interested in their product or service and when I come across their blog there has not been an article written in over a year! This is very common in site blogs and gives a signal to your prospective clients that you are not proactive with your online business or even worse, you do not care about new business or updating your current clients. So, before you consider a blog in your site, it is important that you will commit to updating the blog at least every couple of weeks if not more often. If you do not have the time to do this, it may be better to wait until you have the time to do so.
