FAQ:
Why Optimize Your Google Business Profile?
For service-based businesses, appearing in the top three is a game-changer. Customers seeking immediate help—such as emergency repairs or appointments—rely on quick, trustworthy options. An optimized GBP with complete info, positive reviews, and relevant categories signals to Google that you’re a reliable choice, increasing your chances of ranking high. This leads to more direct inquiries, higher conversion rates, and a competitive edge over unoptimized competitors.
What is the timeline for results and when to consider paid ads?
Patience is key: It typically takes at least a couple of months to see noticeable improvements after we start optimizing your profile, as Google needs time to crawl updates, build trust, and adjust rankings based on performance. If you’re seeking instant traffic and results, a pay-per-click (PPC) campaign might be a better fit. PPC ads can deliver immediate visibility through targeted keywords, complementing your long-term local marketing efforts but have a very low return rate at about 1-2 %. We suggest getting away from paid ads, focus your budget on getting your GBP and website fixed and then reap the benefits of free clicks to your GBP from Google search, Google Maps, Apple Maps & AI. You will save a fortune on advertising this way.
Can’t I just optimize the GBP Myself?
Yes, you can, but let us share why it should be professionally done. We recently onboarded a Plumbing company in North County San Diego. First, we do an in depth audit of their website, Google Business profile, NAP consistency test, backlinks report and social media pages. We pull up their website and there’s one giant “Services” page that lumps together drain cleaning, water heater repair, leak detection, pipe replacement, and emergency service—all on the same page and URL and about 2 sentences for each (with mis spelled words). You must have a dedicated page for each service properly optimized for SEO with a minimum of 500 words about that service so immediately we see some problems with the website Then we checked their Google Business Profile. They’ve got 79 reviews with a solid 4.9 stars, earned over a decade of honest, quality service and work. But the profile itself is half-empty, there were no services added or categorized and only one category w was entered instead of the 7 Google allows, leaving a ton of money on the table yearly. There was only one Service area selected in the profile and that was Carlsbad, the city they are based in. So Google thinks they only service Carlsbad and won’t bring them up in other North County cities at all, not good. Their profile has no recent photos and a grand total of 4, the last one was uploaded 14 months ago. Of the 79 reviews, they have not responded to one of them, even the 2-3 negative reviews they received. A post has never been submitted since the profile was started. All of the above things are crucial in your profile to let Google know you are an active business they should trust to bring you up at the top, low trust = low ranking. So the above mentioned reasons are why a service-based business should not optimize on their own because they have no idea the things Google wants to see in the profile and site in order trust the business.
So we run their search visibility report locally in north county. They rank well for their exact business name and almost nothing else. Meanwhile, a company just two zip codes over with half the reviews is dominating every “plumber near me,” “emergency plumber,” and “water heater repair” search in North County.
The reputation is there. The work ethic is there. The systems and knowledge of optimization for search engines just isn’t. And that’s exactly where we start.
We actually offer real time video training on how to optimize the GBP and website yourself, so if you prefer to manage the site and GPB on your own, at least get professional training to learn want Google wants in your GBP and website in order to trust you are an active business that they trust to bring into the top of consumer search results.
